Feeding Centers

Guatemala has the fourth highest rate of malnutrition in the world and the highest rate in Latin America and the Caribbean. To ease this suffering, Mission Guatemala is collaborating with the parents of the two different communities to provide over 150 children with a healthy and nutritious lunch at their school. Each child also receives a vitamin tablet each day.

The feeding program in Nueva Esperanza provides 100 children with a healthy and nutritious lunch five days a week.  The feeding program in Pacaman provides a healthy and nutritious lunch to 60 children.  The program in Pacaman is made possible by a generous donation from Johns Creek United Methodist Church in suburban Atlanta.

The food is purchased through donations and sponsors in the United States and is cooked by the mothers of the village. This meal provides approximately 75-80% of the total caloric intake that a growing child needs, and for most children, it is the only substantial meal they receive in a day.  It is our hope that we might be feeding 500 children each day in the coming years.
