A COVID-19 Update From Dra. Lidia Balán
The Mission Guatemala team has been hard at work to design and create new PPE (personal protective equipment) items including waterproof scrub tops and pants, as well as hats and gowns to share with medical and frontline personnel here in Guatemala.
This past week, our clinic doctor, Dra. Lidia Balán, shared an update about Mission Guatemala's coronavirus response. You can click the button below to read the story now!

Food Supplies and Masks for Our Neighbors
In June, we delivered boxes of food supplies to families across many of the communities where we serve! We focused especially on families who are part of our "Niños Chispudos" (Kids With A Spark) early childhood nutrition program and our "Becas Con Misión" (Scholarships with a Mission) scholarship program.
We also provided each family with a supply of handmade, reusable face masks, which our staff members had made as part of our production of PPE. In addition, for families with greater need, we also provided a bag of cleaning and hygiene supplies, including a gallon of liquid hand soap. In the article shared below, there are links to view photos from all of the deliveries! And for a story about packing these boxes, click here!

Distributing PPE to Local Healthcare Workers
Mission Guatemala's clinic doctor, Dra. Lidia Balán, and her husband Dr. Rodrigo Samines, delivered Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) manufactured by Mission Guatemala to public medical clinics in several towns and communities throughout the Department of Sololá.

Protective Equipment for Firefighters
In addition to providing essential items of PPE to government medical clinics, we have also had the opportunity to distribute face shields and masks to the volunteer fire departments (who also serve as the almost exclusive ambulance service for their areas) in Los Encuentros, Panajachel, and San Martín Jilotepeque.

Mission Guatemala Staff Stories
In addition to the sharing about the work we're doing in response to the coronavirus pandemic, we've also taken time throughout the months to share stories written by our staff members.
We'll be sharing more of these in the future, but for now, you can read stories written by Dave, Elias, Marily, Devora, and Daniel about their experience during this very challenging time.

Safely Celebrating New Life!
Soon after we provided the first items of PPE to local government health workers, Dra. Lidia Balán shared this photo and note with us. It brightened our day immediately!
"The face shields are very effective, and all are grateful! The CAP (Permanent Government Clinic) in Panajachel performed a delivery, and thanks to the face shields the health personnel were protected, and at the same time they ensured that the newborn was safe as well!"
The Mission Guatemala team worked form the very beginning of the pandemic to produce PPE for healthcare workers, including these face shields. To date, we've delivered hundreds of face shields, thousands of masks, and much more PPE to local healthcare professionals and first responders.
