Leadership Changes at Mission Guatemala

We are excited to share some changes happening here at Mission Guatemala!

After founding Mission Guatemala nearly 7 years ago, the Rev. Tom Heaton has, after consideration and prayer, accepted a position with the Indiana Conference of The United Methodist Church as Associate Director of Missions and Justice Ministries.

This position has recently been created within the Indiana Conference, with the focus of developing and implementing Conference ministries related to mission, advocacy and justice in order to make a more significant impact transforming lives in local communities and the world. This new role will directly correspond with two of the Methodist Church's focuses of Engaging in Ministry with the Poor and Improving Global Health.

Tom will begin his new responsibilities on May 1, however he will also continue indefinitely as an adviser to the board of directors and to the leadership of Mission Guatemala.

David Burns, Executive Director and co-founder of Mission Guatemala, will continue to lead day-to-day operations of the organization along with the support of our fantastic U.S. and Guatemalan staff.

Mission Guatemala remains committed to serving alongside the communities in the area of San Andrés Semetabaj to help improve the quality of life for our friends and family here, and we are excited to see Tom have the opportunity to develop new ministries related to missions and justice in the Indiana Conference!
