At the end of February, we welcomed Indian Run United Methodist Church of Dublin, Ohio, as our first team of 2023! This was Indian Run UMC's third week of service alongside Mission Guatemala.
The team worked on two projects this year, the first of which was to apply a flexible cement sealer to the interior walls of our renovated kitchen and dining room space at the River House. In February 2022, the Indian Run team helped us begin the renovation of the space, and it was awesome to have their help in one of the final steps of its transformation!
Their second project was stuccoing the walls of the 2 new classrooms that we are building for a middle school in the community of Xequistel! This project began in 2019, before everything was paused due to the pandemic, and we are excited to see it finally nearing completion!
The middle school in Xequistel currently has only two classrooms that are exclusively theirs, meaning that they have had to "borrow" classrooms from the local elementary school they share space with in order to have sufficient space for their classes. The two new classrooms that Mission Guatemala is constructing will be exclusively for the middle school, giving the school new opportunities to grow and to serve the community and the surrounding areas for years to come!
We are so grateful to the Indian Run team for their incredible support throughout the past years, and we look forward to working alongside them again soon here in Guatemala! Until next time, we share this blessing with which Indian Run UMC closes each service… ”May the road rise to meet you, may the wind blow at your back, may the sun shine warmly on your face, may the rains fall softly on your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand!”
