We are excited to announce that our new electronic medical records database software is now live in Mission Guatemala’s clinic!
Beginning in 2019, we have watched our long-time dream of an electronic database system for the clinic becoming a reality thanks to the wonderful faculty, staff and students at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, Ohio! Under the unflagging leadership of the project by computer science professor Dr. Rachelle Hippler, coordinator of the software engineering major at BW, and the assistance of Ken Atchinson, who oversees BW’s cybersecurity analyst program, in addition to the groups of students majoring in software engineering who have worked on the project as part of a year-long senior capstone project, the first phase of this custom-designed electronic database program is now complete!
This spring we welcomed Dr. Hippler, Professor Atchinson and Alex Macko-Millard, a computer science student who has worked on the database project as Product Owner and SME for the past 2 years, to Guatemala to do the final installation and testing of the software and to train our staff in using the program. Since their week here with us in-country, they have also provided remote technical support to deal with any questions or issues that have arisen during the program’s first months of use.
Dr. Lidia and our nursing staff in the clinic have been overjoyed to use the new software! And we are excited that, in addition to the advanced efficiency and security that the electronic database provides, we will now also be able to utilize it to help review and analyze our medical data more easily, increasing our ability to provide the best medical care possible for our sisters and brothers in Guatemala. There is no doubt that this database software will have a deep and lasting impact on our medical staff's ability to better serve patients in the years to come!
We are deeply grateful for our partnership with Baldwin Wallace University, and especially for the incredible work of Dr. Hippler and the computer science department to provide our clinic with such a cutting-edge digital records system. We are also so very thankful for the computer equipment that was donated to facilitate the use of the database system and for the training that they provided to our staff!
¡Muchas Gracias!
